Turban Power in the Turkish Nation

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Jim Masters Muslim or Turkish first? My Pal Jerry messaged me the other day asking if I had any comments about the NY Times article of November 28, 2006 entitled ‘Allure of Islam Signals a Shift Within Turkey’ by Sabrina Tavernise. So I read Ms. Tavernise’s article at the NY Times Website and (overlooking a few strong differences I had with what she wrote, such as her citation of the useless Pew Report from earlier this year — as if it were in any way authoritative), I thought she made an informative addition to the dialogue on ‘religious attitudes’ in Turkey. A pivotal point of Ms. Tavernise’s article — that ‘Turks who identify themselves by their religion has increased to 45 percent this year, from 36 percent in 1999′ — was drawn from the findings of a new ‘religious attitudes’ survey prepared by The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (Trkiye Ekonomik ve Sosyal Etdler Vakfı — TESEV). The TESEV survey, entitled ‘Religion, Society and Politics in the Changing Turkey’ (Degisen Trkiye’de Din Toplum ve Siyaset) had been reported in Hrriyet Gazetesi six days before Ms. Taverline’s dateline — and it contained some other interesting and revealing discoveries… 51% of those polled this year believe that the wife of the next Turkish President should not wear a religiously-symbolic turban in public. (Since the most likely candidate for the Presidency in May 2007 is the current Prime Minister and AKP religious-right party-leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan [whose wife always wears a turban in public -- see photo via our page link below], that 51% majority is a little on the thin side for those who favor a secular state in Turkey…) 8% of those who currently shun religiously-symbolic headcoverings said, ‘If everyone around me starts to wear a headcovering, I’ll have to follow suit.’ In a similar TESEV poll taken in 1999, 36 percent said they were ‘Religious (Muslim) first’ compared to 21 percent who said they were ‘Turkish first.’ In this year’s poll, those declaring themselves ‘Religious (Muslim) first’ have increased to 45 percent — the percentage of those in the ‘Turkish first’ category has declined to just 19%. This year’s study tries to downplay the above-noted increase in religious identity among Turks — saying that it doesn’t indicate a desire for an Islamic State. According to the study, the desire for ‘a Shariah-based (Islamic law) Religious State’ has dropped significantly from 21 percent to 9 percent since 1999. Even among strong religious-right conservative AKP supporters, those who desire an Islamic State amount to less than 14% — which is only about 4.2% of the total Turkish population. To further support the pro-secular sentiment, let’s not forget the recent poll (reported in Gzc Gazetesi during November 2006) that indicates a drop in voter support for the religious-right AKP from 36% (when they won the national election in November 2002) to 25% as we enter the next national election year in 2007. Dr. Can Paker, Director of TESEV, admits to the public perception that the number of headcovering (trbanli) females has increased since 1999, but he insists that the real number has actually decreased. Dr. Paker says that, ‘As incomes have increased the number of trbanli headcoverers has decreased (from 16 to 11%). The incorrect public perception arises because headcoverers — who used to stay at home — are now coming out in public due to their increased affluence.’ The most worrisome aspect of the report from Dr. Paker’s viewpoint is that a “them and us” attitude is developing within Turkish society — which has mushroomed since the AKP religious-right government came to power in 2003. To support Dr. Paker’s view, 71% of those polled in 2006 thought that too much friction exists between religionists and secularists. That’s up from 50% in 1999. Will this religion-rooted turmoil ever end in Turkey? It’s not likely –unless and until Turks can do a better job of separating religion and politics…assuming, of course, that they truly have the desire to do so.The jury is still (way) out on that one. The Best Business Card I Ever Saw

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Jeff Goulding I knew from the first moment I saw his card that I had to talk to the person who left it for me. Why did I feel so strongly about it? Well, for a start, it made me laugh. Nothing is as important as being alive, so enjoy it while you can: Carpe Diem. Weve all heard it said, but how many of us really know much about it? Where it came from, or who said it? Carpe Diem: the famous advice Seize the Day is from Horaces Odes. (Odes in Horaces case, being his thoughts on lots of different things). The full thought is: Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero, which may be translated as: Enjoy today, trusting little in tomorrow. Thus, carpe diem from ancient times until now has been advice expressed in many different ways, e.g. eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die; make hay while the sun shines; enjoy yourself, its later than you think. Or in 2006: Lifes a bitch and then you die. Anybody who can make me laugh in the middle of my business day is someone I want to associate with, I can tell you. The other reason I wanted so much to see the person who called and left the card, was that I needed to give it back to him. In selling, they say that the best way to succeed is by giving someone what they want. Because, in doing so, youre fulfilling a need or at least, what your potential buyer perceives as a need. (The latter being the reason why so much advertising is designed to create a perceived need). And this guy had certainly created a need for me to see him, simply by leaving his card! I guess the third reason is that curiosity, as they say, killed the cat. How many of us respond to something simply because our curiosity is aroused? I freely confess that I do. The need to know is one of our strongest, human urges some would say weakness. (No reading ahead, please!) For sure, curiosity has been the downfall of many an otherwise, over-cautious individual. I wanted to know not just who he was, but who had designed the card; what the person looked like who had presented it; and whether he meant what he said sorry, no, that last bit isnt true! I knew he didnt mean it. He couldnt possibly mean it. So, it made me laugh; it aroused my curiosity; and it achieved its primary objective: it made me want to see him. What did his card say? Well, his name, business address and contact details were on one side. On the other side however, it read: (The first two words were handwritten the rest of the message was printed on the card.) Dear Hilary, I would like to go to bed with you. If the answer is yes, please keep this card. If the answer is no, please return it as I am running out of cards. What card does he use, you might ask, when the recipient is a fellow male . . . ? Written by Jeff Goulding (jeff.think@hotmail.co.uk) for the Goodprint Challenge. Are You Ready to Handle an Indigo Child?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Joseph Ghabi So whats new in the world of spirituality and the new age these days? Whats the new talk we keep hearing all about? The talk about the indigo Children is gearing more and more. There are now so many workshops, lectures, books and websites dedicated to discussing this subject. You name it, weve got it! Many of us appreciate having all this new information, I am sure. After all, we are very blessed to have these children around us in our times. I believe we all have the responsibility to help them with their growth. Of course, that is the better option as oppose to leaving them wandering around in the world, confused about life being dependant upon us older people who portray ourselves as being mature, responsible and grown up, yet most of us are still handling the same problems we have for most of our lives! So what is my point from all of that and what are we doing with these Indigo Children after we become aware of them being in our surrounding? From my own experience and as far as I can see from what has been going on around myself so far, not many of us are doing that much to REALLY help these children at all! What we think is best for them and what they actually need to enhance their growth in life are not always one and the same thing! That is my point, plain and simple! Many of us might encounter some of these children or perhaps someone as a medium or a psychic or someone you know might tell you, you are an Indigo Child. That person might then allow that information to go straight to their head and what happens next? More confusion is likely to occur in that persons life in the end. Are we really teaching these children to become a better example for the rest of us existing here on this planet? Perhaps we are, but to what extent are we ready to accept them as being a major influence upon the direction which our lives and future will take? You tell me! We are having a new breed of souls incarnating into life here on this earth plane. A new generation of special and gifted souls is coming here to help and assist us in our time of confusion and lack of understanding about our purpose for being here in the first place! It will be their task to awaken us to face the reality of the problems here on earth. So what happens if you find yourself in the surrounding of one of these gifted souls? You probably do not have the faintest idea of how to handle them first of all! You might even be afraid of them, but why? You may feel threatened by them too, especially since being around them is likely to make you feel old when you realize from their example that you never really had the guts to handle your own life properly after all! Then what happens? Many of us might try to put those children down and try to negate their work. We might tell them what do you know? You are so young and cannot possibly be experienced and aware of life! They will appear to be only children with no life experience. If you are one who is likely to ask this question then consider your thoughts again please! We label them as Indigo Children and the reason is because, in reality they are Enlightened Masters. So, if they are Masters, then that means from their soul level of awareness, they are more than capable of teaching us all a thing or two when it comes to life and the purpose of our life experiences. Masters have more than enough knowledge and wisdom to be to distinguish the difference between merely living and existing in life and really understanding and handling our life experiences. These are after all two different things. Dont you agree? If we are stuck when it comes to handling our life experiences, it is simply because we do not want to handle our life experiences, either consciously or unconsciously. We all seem to cut ourselves off from allowing the joy come into our hearts, just as it should if we are surrounded by any children, Indigo Children or Master Souls who are here on this plane at this point of time. They are here to help save this race from all the non-sense that we have built the foundation of our lives upon for such a long time. Such beliefs that are getting us nowhere in reality! Another important thing we should also consider is this. We can actually learn a thing or two about ourselves from any child these days, whether they are Indigo or not! Why? Because they will always see us for our face value instead of the typical pretentious, make believe way we tend to create when we project ourselves to others, meaning that most of the time in life we pretend to be someone we are not. This is another reality which is not working for us in life and it is time to accept it. We ignore children just because they are young, but they are flowing with love, compassion, innocence and truth. We should listen to them more. Really listen to them and you will be surprised. These days we have also begun to create new careers and give ourselves titles such as Indigo Children Consultants. Such consultants are most likely to focus on the parents of an Indigo Child by helping them to learn how to handle the child. However, the responsibility towards the child is not for the parents alone. Everyone should be educated about those children and how to handle them. What do you think will happen to an Indigo Child outside the protection of their home and parents? They will be venturing into the lions dens if they go out alone and unprepared for what they will face in the influence of society today! Does an Indigo Child Consultant really know how to handle those special children? I often wonder! And if so, how and what makes them qualified to do so? I also wonder if they can still handle that child when he or she is sensitive enough to detect and deliver the consultants own fear and weakness when it comes to life. How would they react in that circumstance? So what is an Indigo Child then? Where are they? How can we identify them? First of all, an indigo child is still a human being. As I mentioned before, an indigo child is from the new wave of elevated Master Souls who have decided to incarnate into this plane to help save humanity from destroying itself in the rate we are pushing it these days. Those souls are distributed every where throughout the world and each one of them will have an individual task to fulfill in order to bring the necessary changes in their surroundings, country or in the world. There are some other very highly elevated souls in our own generation at this time. We should be able to identify them easily when we are in contact or in the surrounding of one of those balanced and open Master Souls. From their charisma, magnetic charm (if you like to put it that way!) and in the way they talk directly and with conviction, you should know. It is a feeling of something you can detect so deeply likely goes back to the levels of both Souls. One of places where I personally can identify with someones soul is from the look in their eyes. They will often have a deep and direct gaze. It is not always easy to explain sometimes. It seems to be in the way their eyes speak to you from a deeper level. That is my guideline. However, you might experience something quite different for yourself. There is no right or wrong here! Also I can determine that sometimes from their numerological numbers and most of all, by my intuition. Indigo Children are typically very smart and very clever people. You will see it in the way they look at you and analyze you in order to detect your limitations and our weaknesses as society. This is one of their healing gifts so do not be upset about it! They have a glow around them that you will be attracted to, without even knowing why? You can trust them and open up easily to them. Many of those children will have lots of problems to deal with in their lives, experiencing these problems will help them to help others when they are ready later in their lives. Are you aware of that? Probably not! Those children have long and challenging missions here, yet it is possible that many of them will not succeed in their mission due to the influence of many narrow minded people who exist in our world today. Most of us here are bound by limitation and fear of changing their lives. That will not help the children in the slightest! We must change the way we deal with those children if we are to benefit from their presence here. Another thing I have realized is this. Some people who are dealing with Indigo Children claim to be so happy to be around them, yet when it becomes the time for that child to advise the grown up on something that is a problem their life, their ego starts flying and their pride hits the roof! It is like they are saying What is this? A child is trying to advise me of what to do in my life? How can they know about life when they are so young and inexperienced? Well that is the irony of it all! It is one big contradiction in my eyes! So what happens to that relationship with the child next? The adult might turn against the child out of fear of their position being threatened. They might try to suppress them by putting them down as much as possible. Does it sound familiar to any of you? Perhaps yes and perhaps no. It might even sound absurd! But situations like this are common when adults handle children. Even if you are not aware of this or not, just try to take responsibility for your own actions if you are in the company of any child. It is a fact for everyone that when the time comes for us to realize we are finding it hard to deal with anything in our lives, we will revolt against anyone else, whether it is a child or an adult, who is able to pin point the problem and for telling us what we do not like to hear. That is one of the saddest stories in our humanity. In the end these children are here to help us to move forward in our lives. They are here to bring forth a new understanding of life, a new awareness of ourselves and of our evolution as souls. They are here to help stop us from destroying ourselves out of ego, pride and our need for power in order to make a difference in the way the world and life on this planet is driving. The last thing they need is to have to deal with a negative attitude from the rest of us, just because we are threatened by their presence! That would be a shame! If you are having a hard time dealing with your own life and experiences then you should try to take more care and attention when dealing with any child. The way we act around them as children, affects them in a big way and you never know who you have in your hands! We have to try to help them as oppose to hurting them which can disturb their mission here on this plane in the long run. They are doing us a favor by being here. Those children will see things in black or white and not in grey, as many of us do when it comes to handling our lives as we try to live amongst all the mess and confusion. These children are elevated Master Souls and the majority of them come here with difficult experiences to deal with. The higher the soul is the tougher the experiences will be. The experience can be very simple in the end. However, those souls will see things from far higher level than an average human being who tends to pay attention to the nonsense small stuff which they wont pay much attention to. This talk of Indigo Children is a true reality. It is not just a fairy tale that everyone knows about, yet doesnt fully understand! Indigo children are not only here with some great psychic gifts! They are here with so much more, if only we will allow them to open up freely. Lets help them to become what they are supposed to be, not what we would like them to be according to the image we have created for them! Do not judge them, but be supportive of their actions and talk. You will be doing yourself and the world a favor in the end! Antiques - Tips on How You Should Care for Them

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Allison Thompson For many antique collectors the taking care of their collection is very important to them. For some who have inherited a lovely collection of heirlooms, yet do not have any idea of how to look after them or even keeping up with the collection they already have as well as they should. By caring for these items correctly they will benefit from them in the future, as not only can they be passed on to their loved ones or they can be sold at a higher value in the future if so wished. Below it provided some tips for which you should be able to care for your antiques and collectibles. There are many sites where you should be able to obtain more detailed information on how to look after your priceless treasures. Firstly, we will look at caring for glass, porcelain or pottery antiques. Any items like these should be washed individually in a wash basin to prevent any damage (such as chipping). You should only ever wash them in warm water never hot or cold and with a gentle cleaner using a soft bristled brush. One thing you should NEVER do is put your antique glass, pottery or porcelain in a dishwasher (the extreme heat and detergent used can be extremely harmful). Also always allow each item to dry naturally and do not use a cloth on them to dry them. Next we need to consider how you should display and store your collection. If you have a home where there are young children or generally lots of visitors then make sure that your glass, pottery and porcelain collections are kept in a safe place (cabinet) well away from the main flow of traffic in the house. Do not put the collection on shelves on walls, it only takes one small vibration to occur whether some one accidentally knocks against the shelf or some one knocks against the wall the shelf is on could mean the loss of your collection. Now we will look at how to look after antique rugs and textiles. Any rugs or textiles that you have will need specialist care when either moving, storing or cleaning them. It is quite easy to cause damage (such as tearing) to occur when you move such items as the material they are made from is very delicate and so you make sure you move them slowly and carefully. If you must roll up an antique rug then ensure that the pile of the rug is facing outwards as this will prevent any damage or crushing to the item. Any antique garments that you have should at all times be hung on sturdy hangers and then covered in white cotton or rolled up using an acid free paper and then closed at either end and tied securely. You can vacuum rugs and textiles, but only use a very low setting and always take extra care when you are vacuuming any textiles as you do not want to end up the suction being strong and causing fibers to be pulled apart. If you do happen to spill anything on the rug, then put white paper towels underneath the rug and above where the spill has occurred and replace them until no more liquid comes out. Should it be required, then contact an expert who will be able to clean it correctly. Also remember to keep an eye on the rug or textile and avoid it being exposed directly to either sun or humidity. If you happened to have collected antique or collectible furniture you will need to dust it usually only a soft lint free cloth. Any wooden antique furniture that you have should be waxed usually only a quality bees wax and where at all possible avoid placing any furnishings in bright light or in to rooms which experience extreme changes in temperature or humidity as they will also cause damage. When moving antique furniture carry it out with extreme care never dragging, but always ensure that the furniture is lifted. Many people find that having a valuable collection of either antiques or collectibles is a privilege and by ensuring that they take proper care of them will not only help to increase their value but it also means that they can be passed down from generation to generation. Aromatherapy: Powerful Natural Allergy Relief

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By KG Stiles Blue Tansy’s high azulene content, which gives it a vivid, deep blue color (it can stain so take care), is the chemical thought responsible for Blue Tansy’s strong action to soothe and relax the nervous system, as well as naturally ease the discomfort associated with allergies and pain. Of the commonly used blue variety of essential oils, which also includes Yarrow and Chamomile, Blue Tansy has by far the most delightful and friendly scent. Its warm herbaceous aroma has a notable complexity with a hint of sweetness that to me is reminiscent of apples and spice. Even first time aroma users invariably love Blue Tansy’s warm, inviting scent! Blue Tansy’s natural anti-inflammatory action makes it an exceptionally good relaxant. People often use Blue Tansy for symptomatic relief of muscular aches and pains, sprains and strains, arthritis, rheumatism and sciatica. It can be relied upon to soothe nervous tension and relieve stress. Due to Blue Tansy’s bronchio-dilating effects it is by far the best treatment I have found for long lasting relief for those suffering from allergies. Whether your “allergic” reactions are triggered by environmental allergens or food intolerances Blue Tansy has great power for producing beneficial results. Additionally Blue Tansy’s analgesic properties help to reduce any swelling or itching associated with allergies. Read what one long time sufferer of allergies has to say about using Blue Tansy: “I’ve suffered from allergies for many years and use to get weekly shots and take daily medication to control my symptoms. Blue Tansy helped relieve my allergic reaction to environmental, as well as food allergens. I’ve stopped taking my allergy medication and no longer require shots and seldom do I even need to use my Blue Tansy oil at this point!” Brenda Devine, Cave Junction, Oregon, USA Asthma sufferers may also experience beneficial results when using Blue Tansy due to its bronchio-dilating action; try blending it with Lemongrass essential oil to enhance this effect. Blue Tansy is also known to relieve burns and inflamed or sun damaged skin. My friend Sylla, owner of Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy, used Blue Tansy for relieving the radiation burns sustained when under going her treatment for breast cancer. If you’d like to try a natural, safe and effective treatment for your allergies or for pain relief consider ethically wild crafted Blue Tansy essential oil. Please note: There are many cheap chemical copies of essential oils available, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results always use ethically wild crafted or pure, organic essential oils that are pesticide free! Create Your Plan B Before the Layoff Axe Falls

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Daisy Wright In one short week, the axe fell at a number of companies and thousands of employees were without jobs. Hewlett Packard, Kodak, Ford Motor Company of Canada, PNC Financial and Kimberley Clark each had to make critical business decisions and lay off large numbers of employees. Reasons ranged from “maintaining a tighter rein on costs to creating a simpler nimbler organization. Although the news is usually shocking, layoffs dont just happen. There are usually some subtle signs that changes are coming. How does one prepare for such an eventuality? By having a plan in place…creating a Plan B. Make it your responsibility to manage your own career, to swim out and meet your ship, not wait until it comes ashore. Such a mindset will help lessen the impact of a layoff, and will enable you to weather the storm if and when it comes. Here are some tips to help with your preparation: 1. Keep an eye out for tell-tale signs in your company. If you are becoming a bit jittery at work because things just dont seem right, conduct your own due diligence. Has the company been in the news lately? What for? Did it meet analysts expectations? Did it have a management shakeup? Are there dramatic fluctuations of its share price? This is not to suggest that you become paranoid, but dont become the ostrich with its head in the sand either. The answers to these questions will be a good indicator of where your company is heading. 2. Take advantage of learning opportunities offered by the company. These may be formal training where you attend classes outside of work, or free in-house courses offered as lunch-and-learn programs. Dont forget the Internet which offers a variety of learning opportunities. Although your job may appear safe at the moment, you shouldnt stop learning. Henry Ford once said, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80. 3. Be on the lookout for internal vacancies, and assess yourself to see if your skills match the requirements. Speak with someone within that department to gather additional information about the position and then submit your application. 4. Find out if there are opportunities to job-shadow another employee or be cross-trained on a system. Such initiatives will help to prepare you for your next career move, whether within or outside the company. 5. Make yourself indispensable (at least give it a try) by keeping abreast of industry developments. Arrange informational interviews to learn more about a field you are interested in, or to keep current with trends in your industry. Watch, listen and read the news and see if you can use any of the knowledge gained to enhance your current position. 6. Start a journal of your special achievements, comments made by your supervisor or coworkers and awards and recognitions received. Review your performance appraisals. What did your supervisor say about you? Did you work on a special project? Were you a member of a team that developed a system which added to the companys profitability? These notes will come in handy when you are ready to brush up your rsum. 7. Develop and nurture a network of contacts, even if youre not yet looking for a job. Many people have the misconception that networking is done only when one is job hunting. It is an ongoing process; it takes time to grow, but will be valuable when faced with a layoff or when changing careers. 8. Join a professional association and contribute. Youll learn new skills, meet new people and build credibility among your peers. Many organizations send their job postings to some of these associations before they hit the newspapers. Saying you are a member of a professional association will be a great addition to your rsum. 9. There might be someone whom you admire in or outside your company. Ask if you could discuss your uncertainties or your career plans with them. Its not a weakness to ask for help. 10. There are times when a layoff is just what you may need to propel you to action; to change careers; to do something different. Redirect your energy into something productive and dont feel sorry for yourself. Take a long hard look at where you are in your career. Are you satisfied? Have you reached a plateau in the company? Is it time for a change? After all this, if you are still uncertain about your future, enlist the help of a career coach who can steer you in the right direction. Whatever you do, make proactive choices now; not reactive ones later. Daisy Wright is the president and founder of The Wright Career Solution. Injury Attorneys

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Kent Pinkerton Personal injury law is the field of law that protects victims who are injured by the failure of another to do or not do something that results in injury. Often times, personal injury is caused by slip and fall accidents, workplace accidents, motorcycle accidents, and medical malpractice. If you have sustained a personal injury, you can hire an injury attorney to help you with your personal injury lawsuit. What injury attorneys do Knowing who is at fault for the accident leading up to the personal injury is not always clear. So it is important that you hire an injury attorney to assist you in investigating the acts of negligence that caused the accident. Not all accidents will result in just one person being found liable; an accident may have resulted from the negligence of several different individuals. Additionally, an injury attorney can also help you in your personal injury claim. If you are a personal injury victim, you can claim two types of compensation: general damages and special damages. General damages are paid as compensation for an injury, for example, a payment for pain and suffering or loss of future earnings. The court will decide on the amount to be paid, but your injury attorney will help you get the highest compensation that you can claim. Contingency fee However, most claimants are often worried how they are going to pay their injury attorneys for their services. They worry that if they do not win their cases, they wont be able to pay the attorneys fee. Fortunately, personal injury services can now be paid on a contingency fee basis. A contingency fee is the most common mode of payment arrangement for claimants seeking representation in personal injury litigation. This means that instead of billing the claimant on an hourly basis, the lawyer is entitled to a percentage of the settlement of the trial award. This percentage is usually in the amount of one-third. If you do not receive any settlement for damages, then your injury attorney also receives nothing. Injury attorneys can really help you win your personal injury case. So you have to make sure that you hire a reliable and qualified attorney with years of expertise in the field. What Are The Signs Of A Cheating Spouse?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

By Jennifer Lawless Are you worried that your spouse may be cheating on you? Since one study reported that 53% of women and 59% of men admitted cheating on their spouses, it’s not at all unreasonable to be concerned. The question is do you have any reason to be concerned? What are some of the signs of a cheating spouse? 1) He/she shows a sudden interest in a different type of music. What are the chances that a lifelong country music fan is going to suddenly start listening to hip-hop or classical music? Close to zero, I’d say. 2) Your spouse’s co-workers are uncomfortable in your presence. They’re caught in the position of either betraying a co-worker, or being blamed later if you find out that they knew what was going on and didn’t tell you. No wonder they’re uncomfortable. 3) He/she has a sudden preoccupation with his or her appearance. When are males and females most preoccupied with their appearance? When they’re trying to attract a mate or sexual partner, right? 4) Your spouse spends an excessive amount of time on the computer when you are asleep. Of course, how would you know? You’re asleep. 5) The amount of money being deposited into your checking account drops off. Cheating can be expensive, especially for men, but even women need some new clothes and trips to the salon to carry on an affair with style. Unless your spouse just got fired or laid off, that missing money is being spent on something. 6) You find items of intimate apparel that you did not give your spouse. Only intimate partners give intimate apparel, and, if it wasn’t you, it must be someone else. 7) Your spouse seems less comfortable around you and is “touchy.” Whether because of a guilty conscience or a misplaced loyalty to their new “sweetie,” cheating spouses often become uncomfortable around the spouse they’re cheating on. 8) You get calls where the caller hangs up when he or she hears your voice. It could be a wrong number, but, if it happens again and again… 9) He/she has a definite change in attitude towards everyone in the home. Everyone is a potential snitch, so he/she has to be guarded with all family members. Plus, your cheating spouse may be thinking about the possibility of a new home, which could cause a change in attitude towards the old one. 10) Your spouse uses a low voice or whisper on the phone or hangs up quickly. Your spouse might be planning a surprise birthday party for you, but, if not, what is your spouse trying to hide? 11) He/she begins to delete all incoming phone calls from the caller ID. Everyone knows about reverse lookup by now. 12) Your spouse deletes all incoming e-mails when they used to accumulate. It’s sort of creepy to read other people’s e-mail, but, if your spouse didn’t care about it before, why the sudden change? 13) He/she picks fights in order to stomp out of the house. This has the double benefit of not only getting cheating spouses out of the house, but they also get to justify their cheating to themselves because you’re a bastard/bitch. If your spouse only shows one of the signs, you may have nothing to worry about, but it’s never just one, is it? If your spouse is doing any one of these things, he/she is probably doing several, which brings up the big question: what do you do next? Do you confront, investigate, or ignore? The choice you make will change your life. Jennifer Lawless writes on various subjects, including What Are the Signs of a Cheating Spouse. Dating Advice: Don’t Be a Nice Guy, Be a Good Guy

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

By Spencer Michaels Guys who describe themselves as the nice guy are always saying things like, “Why do nice guys finish last?” The answer is - they don’t… Weak guys finish last. Very often behaviors that you call nice are perceived by women as weak. And they are usually right. So Mr. Nice Guy, get ready for a rude awakening - You are really Mr. Weak Guy. The gauge you are using to qualify your “niceness” is way off. You need to think in terms of being a GOOD guy, not a NICE guy. Women really don’t want jerks. They want many of the qualities that a jerk portrays but they don’t want you to really be a mean jerk. Take a look at the classic hero in most action movies. Let’s look at Indiana Jones for a minute. You’ll notice that for the most part he isn’t a nice guy. He has no time for silly games, he tends to be rather abrupt with people who can’t keep up with him, and he doesn’t kiss anyone’s ass. To the amateur eye he may even come across as a jerk. But, here’s what makes him the hero. When it comes down to it he really is a good guy. He really wants to help people. He has a big heart and even sacrifices his own life to help others around him. This is what women want. It’s okay to have a big heart and to be a really good guy. In fact, women LOVE that. It’s one of the main qualities they look for in a man. You need to learn to separate the concept of what you’ve been calling the “nice guy” from the “good guy.” The nice guy tells everyone what they want to hear. The nice guy doesn’t stand his ground or voice his opinion when people offer adversity. The good guy isn’t concerned with catering to everyone around him and isn’t interested in telling people what they want to hear. He is however very caring and really wants to help people when it comes to serious issues. The good guy is the one who sacrifices himself when it really counts. He has a genuine love for people. You can and should be a good guy without being a weak “nice guy”. Add Some Honey And Stop Feeling Guilty

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By Jonathon Hardcastle According to Greek mythology, the ancient gods of Mount Olympus, like Zeus and Athena, used to eat nectar and ambrosia to maintain their healthy looks and perform their rather unusual human-like activities. Although scholars have not yet concluded on what exactly ambrosia was for ancient Greeks, nectar in botany is a sugar-rich liquid produced by the flowers of plants in order to attract pollinating insects, like honeybees, essential for honey production. Nectar is produced in glands called nectaries, which are located at the base of the perianth, so as to allow pollinators perform their role and accessing the flower’s reproductive structures, the anthers and pistil, while collecting the nectar the flower produces. The collected nectar is then transported by honeybees to combs where honey is produced. Honey is a sweet and viscous fluid, significantly sweeter than table sugar and has very attractive chemical properties for baking. With its distinct flavor, which leads some people to prefer it over sugar and other sweeteners, honey is a type of food that has great benefits for the human body and its consumption promotes contemporary nutritional habits and healthy dietary demands. Categorized both as a type of food and a natural medicine, honey has been used by a variety of civilizations for different reasons. Ancient Egyptians used it to preserve their dead (mummies), Roman’s as an important cosmetic ingredient and it is mentioned even in the Christian Bible. Many types of honey exist today and the recent technological developments have created the best possible conditions for honey production and have contributed to its different uses in medicine, food and cosmetic industries. But unfortunately, chemical substances used to increase the honey production and meet the greater demand existing today, have resulted in deteriorating its natural ingredients and even making it dangerous, in rare and extreme cases, for human consumption. Contemporary consumers have the ability to protect their health by buying honey that is produced by professionals and thus minimize the risk of consuming a product that will not benefit the human body. But even when the honey purchased is produced in accordance to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Guidelines, it is extremely important for us to maintain the appropriate storage conditions and prolong its duration by promoting its safe use. Specifically, honey has to be stored in cool places and we have to avoid storing it close to electric appliances or near sunny windows that raise the temperature in the storage shelve or room. Any kind of utensil used to retrieve honey out of its container has to be totally clean and without any kind of moisture on it. Honey-lovers should follow these simple instructions in order to keep their purchased honey longer and their minds at rest regarding its safe use.
